Sharp-eyed motorists have been quick to spot a council blunder on a road sign on a city grid road.

The sign is on the V4 Watling Street roundabout, where a multi-million pound scheme was completed this summer as part of a multi million scheme to build a new underpass, roundabout and pedestrian crossing was completed this summer.

Situated between Whitehouse and Two Mile Ash, it names the lane leading to the village of Calverton.

The village and its associated group of three hamlets, Lower Weald, Middle Weald and Upper Weald, is set in open countryside on the western edge of Milton Keynes, near Stony Stratford.

The parish, and before it the Manor of Calverton, has a long history stretching back to Domesday and beyond.

In the period immediately before the Romans invaded, a small settlement of tribal people known as the Catuvellauni lived at the southern end of the parish in a small hamlet of circular huts, paddocks and drove ways.
