Central Milton Keynes is top spot for parking fines as MK Council raked in £980,830 last year

The latest data shows Milton Keynes residents paid more than the UK average in parking fines with most violations coming in the city centre.

The latest data compiled by Compare the Market shows that 33,813 fines were issued in Milton Keynes last year.

Fines administered by the MK Council cost on average £29.01 comfortably below the national average of £37.

Milton Keynes Council ranked 23rd for money gained from parking fines in Compare the Market's long list of 185 councils. The top was dominated by Greater London with nine of the 10 most fined areas falling inside the capital's catchment.

London Borough of Newham was the only council to rake in over £10 million in fines, whilst the 11 most fined areas all cleared the £4 million mark.

In the last year local authorities, on average, issued nearly 23,000 parking fines – with the 20 authorities that issued the most handing out nearly 2.2 million fines between them.

Up and down the country local authorities are issuing 63 parking fines a day – rising to 307 per day by the 20 local authorities issuing the most payments.
