Community pub re-opens with 'biggest projectors in Milton Keynes' to view sports

A community pub in Eaglestone is now open again after receiving a £65,000 investment and total rebrand.

The investment has seen the addition of a snooker table which can be hired by the hour, two new pool tables, three new dart boards and two huge projectors – the largest in Milton Keynes – for local people to enjoy all the big sporting occasions.

The pub is owned by Hawthorn, The Community Pub Company, which has more than 700 pubs across Scotland, England and Wales.

The pub re-opened yesterday, in line with government guidelines, and is continuing to be run by David McGowan who is well known to locals after being at the helm for almost five years.

The exterior of the pub has been fully repainted and has new signage, while the drinks menu has also been extended to include a brand-new range of flavoured gins and rums, whiskies, wines, single serve Prosecco and Pravha draught lager.

David, who lived in Milton Keynes his whole life and spent 27 years as a regular at the Eagle, said: “It will be fantastic to finally get the community back together and we can’t wait for everyone to see the new refurbishments.

"We also have room for up to 60 people on the outdoor patio area so there’s plenty of space and options for customers, and we’re hoping to welcome back as many people as possible. When we’re allowed, we’ll be bringing in karaoke and live music too, to create a great atmosphere and have some fun."

He added: “Our locals are really important to us and their generosity has always blown us away. We have done lots of charity work over the years to raise money for local causes, including annual fundraisers for various charities, for which we have raised over £12,000. The pub is nothing without the community and we’re counting down the days ‘til we can welcome everyone back. We hope the locals enjoy the new additions to the pub.”

Andrew Parker, director of leased and tenanted operations at Hawthorn, said: “David is an asset to Hawthorn and we don’t know where the Eagle would be without him. The pub was in need of some significant upgrades and we’re thrilled with the results. We’re sure the reopening will be a huge success and we wish David the best of luck.”
