Contractors are completing 50 repairs a day in council homes during coronavirus lockdown in Milton Keynes

MKC’s housing maintenance contractor Mears is continuing to provide a 24/7 service, ensuring homes remain safe, secure and have appropriate power, lighting, heating and hot water, while still following government health guidelines and social distancing measures.

Since the introduction of this guidance in late March, the council‘s contractor has responded to an average of over 50 emergency/essential repairs requests per day – that’s around one job every ten minutes. MKC is continuing to deal with all housing queries, but is prioritising essential repairs for its most vulnerable tenants during this period.

Milton Keynes Council says it is is investing £165 million in improving its homes, and its ongoing maintenance programme has already installed new roofs, kitchens, doors and windows for MK families. MKC will continue with its planned maintenance programme as soon as it safe to do so.

Mears is one of the partners working with the council to deliver essentials to vulnerable people through the Local Support Service.
