Covid cases rise to record levels on the day Milton Keynes is placed in tier 2

Hours after the government allocated MK to tier two, it has revealed one of the highest daily Covid figures ever for the city.

Over the past 24 hours there have been 112 new positive tests in MK.

This is a disappointing increase after the figures of 69, 35 and 58 respectively for Monday, Tuesday and yesterday (Wednesday).

Sadly one more death has been registered at MK hospital over the past 24 hours, bringing the toll to 141 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Since March, 3,559 people have now tested positive for coronavirus in MK.

Nationally today there were 17,555 new cases and 490 deaths.

The government announced earlier today that Milton Keynes would be in tier 2 (high risk) when lockdown ends next Wednesday. The decision was due to the rate that numbers of Covid cases had been increasing over the past few weeks.
