Disabled woman plans 26 mile wheelchair marathon in Milton Keynes shopping centre

A woman confined to a wheelchair after a riding accident is to attempt a 26.6 mile marathon push in the centre:mk next month.

Sharon Mynard, who is 52, broke her neck in a fall from a horse when she was 16.

This left her partially paralysed and confined to a wheelchair.

She is determined to raise £10,000 for the Brain Tumour Research charity in honour of the horse world's 'greatest showman' Rory Gilsenan.

Rory, who was a show horse producer and working hunter competitor, lost his battle against brain cancer last month. He was 50 years old.

Sharon said: "I know their is nothing I can do for him now, but if I can raise as much money as possible to help a little bit towards some more research then I will feel like I have hopefully helped another family somehow.

" I am no athlete, with no fancy gear or high grade wheelchair. I am just me, trying to do something good."

She admits she had "dark times" after her accident, but now considers herself lucky.

"Spinal cord injuries change lives, but it does not end them... I have been lucky in my life, although it's been difficult at times to have achieved what most people aspire to - my own business and marriage. But the best achievement of all is my son Toby," she said.

Sharon is planning to complete her marathon on June 21. She has launched a fundraising page, which has already raised £3,378.
