Live updates: ‘discoloured water’ and ‘very low’ pressure reported in parts of Milton Keynes

Anglian Water has confirmed that customers in parts of Milton Keynes are experiencing issues in their water supply due to a burst water main and disturbances in its pipes.

On Friday, October 23, the water company reported an ‘Interruption to Supply’ in Standing Way, Eaglestone and ‘Discoloured Water’ in Stony Stratford and the surrounding area.

It added that some customers in Eaglestone may have very low water pressure, which has been caused by a burst water main. The company is aiming to have the issue fixed and everything back to normal by 4pm on October 23.

On the night of Thursday, October 22, residents in Beanhill, Eaglestone and Campbell Park posted images on social media showing widespread flooding and some residents complained of very low pressure. This was reportedly due to the burst main.

Anglian Water also reported that customers in Stony Stratford and the surrounding area may currently have discoloured water - which may look brown, orange or yellow. The Anglian Water update explained that this happens when iron sediments are disturbed in its pipes. Adding that, ‘it’s harmless, but we appreciate it doesn’t look very appealing.’

The company said they are looking into what is causing the issue and might need to do some ‘flushing’ - which is where it pushes water through the pipes and then lets it flow out onto the ground.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “We’re sorry that some customers in Milton Keynes may be experiencing lower water pressure than normal or some discolouration to their water. There is a burst water main in the area which our teams responded quickly to in order to keep customers supplied with water while repairs are carried out.

“Due to the location of the burst, additional work is needed before repairs can be completed safely. Our technicians remain in the area and are working with partners to ensure the necessary repairs can take place as quickly and safely as possible. We'd like to thank customers for their patience and understanding while we carry out this essential work.”
