Elderly couple married for 64 years are reunited in Milton Keynes care home

A couple who have spent 64 years together have been happily reunited in an MK care home.

David and Glennis Attree, are over the moon to be living together again after being apart since David moved to Ashby House Care Home early this year.

Glennis decided recently that she would like to join David permanently at the care home in Eaglestone West and has now joined him.

Wojciech Kuczkowski, general manager at Ashby House, said, “We are so pleased we are able to provide a happy home where Glennis and David can be together again. They have been married for 64 years and it is great to see them enjoying each other’s company again and sharing lots of memories. "

He added: "We would like to support other couples to stay together or enjoy Christmas respite together.”

Glennis is a former primary school teacher and accountant, while David worked as a civil engineer who specialised in roads and road layouts. He helped to design the Milton Keynes road system when the town was first developed.

"Glennis and David are both very proud of his contribution to making Milton Keynes the wonderful place it is today," said Wojciech.

The couple have three daughters, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. They are looking forward to Christmas visits in the Covid-safe visiting lounge currently being constructed at the care home.

David and Glennis enjoyed going to the theatre together in their younger days and hope to go on outings arranged by the team at Ashby House when Covid guidelines allow.. In the meantime, they are enjoying the daily crafts, activities, entertainment and monthly themed dining experiences offered by Ashby House’s life enrichment programme.

They also spend time relaxing together in the lounge, reading the papers, listening to the radio or watching TV.

Ashby House, run by Barchester Healthcare, provides residential, nursing and dementia care for 60 residents, including respite care, festive Christmas breaks and long term stays.
