An MK office provider is calling for the government to make facemasks compulsory in all workspaces.

Jonathan Ratcliffe from Milton Keynes office provider Offices.co.uk says it is not enough that people should have to wear masks in shops and on public transport.

He is asking that all workspaces be included in the new ruling, which starts on July 24.

“We desperately need everyone back at work in Milton Keynes, and the confusion about whether it’s safe or not is not helpful at all. Including compulsory facemasks in offices and workplaces on the 24th July sends a strong message that this is the new normal, and we need everyone back in Milton Keynes – even if they are wearing masks," he said.

"The thinking is that by extending this compulsory requirement to all common areas of workspaces, offices and co-working spaces, this normalises mask wearing and enables workers to get back to work in Milton Keynes and helps the crippled shops, cafes and local economies."

Offices.co.uk is asking the Government to consider a clear enforcement of mask wearing in all common areas of offices and workplaces as well as toilets, kitchens, shared areas, receptions, lifts, and entrances

They say facemasks should only be taken off in a private office spaces or when there are “bubble groups of close work colleagues”.

“We need a clear plan for our staff and our client’s businesses. Many need to get back into an office environment, and by enforcement by the government, we could make our Milton Keynes office buildings safer for the next six months. Local businesses in Milton Keynes need that confidence right now", said Jonathan.
