Fears that Milton Keynes could face more restrictions increase as the number of new Covid cases continues to rise

The city has this week moved to the top third in the list Covid hotspots in the UK.

For months the city had been in the bottom third of of local authority areas, but cases have steadily increased since lockdown ended.

Today's government statistics show the bring the total to 4,584 cases since the start of the pandemic.

There have been no new deaths recorded over the past 24 hours in MK, and the total still stands at 228.

Nationally, figures have also increased to 20,964 new cases today, and there have been 516 deaths.

Mayor of Milton Keynes Andrew Geary said yesterday: "With Milton Keynes having now gone from the bottom third of local authorities to the top third, it gives rise to concerns as to what might happen come the first fortnightly review.. any hopes of any relaxation of rules in the near future seem to be dwindling away now."
