Glamorous Milton Keynes pensioners aged 77 and 68 represent UK at international beauty pageant
Two women from Milton Keynes travelled to America to compete in an international beauty pageant, after winning titles in the UK.
Janet Charlton, 68, and Carolyne Martin, 77, flew to Orlando, Florida, in June to compete in the Pure International beauty pageant.
They had won the UK heats last October to secure their positions in the competition - Janet had won the title of pure international Great Britain, while Carolyne was named pure international United Kingdom.
Janet said: “It was the best experience with my friend. We shared a room and helped each other get ready. Lots of laughs along the way.”

They competed with women from all over America and other parts of the world. They joined compulsory categories including evening wear, national wear and an interview.
Janet also showcased her knitting, diamond art, crystal art and denim dazzle western wear. As a group, they also both dressed up as Disney characters.
She added: “We didn’t win, but I will be competing again in October, hopefully getting a place to go to Orlando again, this was my second time.”

When MK Citizen asked how she had originally started pageantry, Janet said: “I retired and was at a loss how to fill my time and saw a local pageant advertised in Stoney Stratford really for a laugh.
“There were only five of us but I came third and one of the judges said to me if I wanted any advice I could always contact her, which I did. She introduced me to a group of ladies who all did pageants and lived in Milton Keynes.”
Janet flew to Italy after the competition for a well deserved 5-night break with her husband. She looks forward to competing again in October.
