After hearing the plight of Dr Andrew Dooley, Rebecca Beaton has set up a Go Fund Me page to raise £700 for a new bike.

Last week, MK Citizen revealed how the junior Covid doctor had his bike stolen following a 13-hour shift at Milton Keynes Hospital.Rebecca said: "I was speaking to Andrew who was absolutely gutted about this as he bought it as a way of getting some enjoyment.

"We all know how hard we work for our things and for someone to just come and steal. I thought if we all clubbed him we could get him a new one. Team work makes the dream work. Please donate."

Andrew, like many others, had found the bike a real boost to his mental health during the pandemic.

He told us: "I bought a nice new bike because I had been struggling in lockdown."

The bike - a silver Boardman Adventure 8.6 - had set Andrew back £650 and was stolen from the hospital staff shed in Lister Close.

When he found out about the Go Fund Me gesture, Andrew - who received a commendation from the hospital's chief executive for his work on the Covid ward - said: "My faith in the human spirit has been restored.

"I can only hope that the Duke of Bedford is an avid reader of the MK Citizen.”
