The event, which is open to people of all ages, has been organised by Ashby House care home on Eaglestone - and the judges will be the elderly residents.

Individuals, families, schools, clubs and organisations are all invited to send in photographs of their Easter-themed cakes, bakes and biscuits and there will be small prizes for the winners in each category.

The care home says it will give local people the chance to show off the baking and decorating skills they have

developed during lockdown.

Briony Archer, Activities Coordinator at Ashby House, said, “Our residents love baking and we thought it would be nice to involve the local community. We are asking people to send us a photo of their Easter-themed cakes, bakes

and biscuits. The ladies and gents who live at Ashby House Care Home will judge the entries and choose the winners.”

The competition's age categories are 11 years and under, 12 to 17 years and 18 plus. There will also be a prize for the school, company, club or organisation whose members send in the most entries.

Entrants should email a photo of their cake, a sentence about it, their name, age if under 18, and the school or organisation they belong to if it is part of a group entry. Individuals can enter too and emails should be sent by April 18 to [email protected] . If anyone has a question about the Easter Bake Off they can call the Activities Team on 01908 696676.

Wojciech Kuczkowski, General Manager at Ashby House, said: “We have activities every day for our respite and permanent residents and it often involves food or baking. We have kept residents connected to their families and the local community over the past year, and this competition is a great way to involve other people.

"We hope as many people as possible will take part, and also post their picture on our Facebook page.

@BarchesterAshbyHouse."
