High number of new Covid cases in Milton Keynes today

As the city waits to hear which tier it will be placed in, the Covid infection rate in MK shows no sign of abating.

Over the past 24 hours, 164 new people have tested positive in the city. This brings the total number of cases to 5,475 since the start of the pandemic.

Happily there has been no new deaths over the past 24 hours, and the total still stands at 235.

Covid figures increased throughout the UK today, with 25,161 new tests today and 612 deaths.

The government met today to decide which areas should remain in their current Tier restrictions and which should change. An announcement about Milton Keynes, currently in Tier 2, is expected tomorrow (Thursday).

City officials agree it is likely the city will be placed in Tier 3 due to the significant recent surge in cases.
