The 12-mile ride is also famous for some legendary fancy dress costumes – riders traditionally go all out with colourful hats, hair, painted faces and pretty costumes.

And not to be outdone - the horses get dressed up too.

All money raised will go towards training dogs to detect disease. Bio detection dogs can detect even the tiniest traces of diseases like different types of cancer, malaria and Parkinson’s.

Medical Detection Dogs CEO, Claire Guest, said: “We are so thankful to run this event as it’s a brilliant way to bring two sets of animal lovers together that fit so naturally. There aren’t many riders that don’t have dogs or yards without dogs pottering about and as such friendly communities this event is always great fun.

“The money raised makes a real difference to our world-leading research and helps us continue to train dogs to use their incredible noses to detect a list of conditions and diseases that is growing all the time. Their potential is endless.”
