Incredible cloud formation over Milton Keynes signifies thunderstorms are on the way

The photo was taken last night (Tuesday) just before 8.30pm by Ryan Asryan.
He noticed the unusual cloud over MK as he was travelling along the M1 South, near junction 14.

Hide AdOther photos of the cloud have been released on social media, prompting a response from BBC meteorologist Tomasz Schafernaker.
He said: "This is the queen of all clouds. Cumulonimbus Incus a.k.a. anvil cloud - what a beauty.
The anvil cloud signifies thunderstorms, said Tomasz, who added: "A thunderstorm of seven miles high or more, with ferocious, often hurricane force updrafts in its core."
Meanwhile, with temperatures sizzling at 33 degrees this afternoon, thunderstorms are expected tonight in MK between 6pm and 9pm.
