One disgruntled source said: "Staff are still putting themselves at risk, doing their wonderful job of care and thoroughly deserve this increase and more permanently.

"This virus is far from over or safe, so the staff need to be treated appropriately."

A spokesman for the company told the Citizen today: "Excelcare truly values their team and wishes to advise that annual pay rises are awarded annually in October."

They added: "The Covid-19 pandemic has presented a very challenging and unprecedented time and all our homes were given guidance, support and PPE ahead of the government advice.

"In recognition of the dedication and commitment shown during the pandemic period, we awarded all frontline team members with an enhanced rate of pay, along with gifts and sweet treats. Furthermore, just last week we celebrated our annual Staff Appreciation Day, with homes holding various socially distanced celebrations, and all staff received gifts and a gift voucher."

Each Excelcare home will be holding Rainbow of Hope Celebration for residents, relatives and team members as soon as social distance measures are reduced.
