Labour welcomes funding for Milton Keynes health centre
New government funding for Stony Stratford Health Centre is welcomed by a Milton Keynes MP.
The MP for Milton Keynes North, Chris Curtis, has welcomed funding announced recently for Stony Stratford Health Centre. The investment comes as part of the government's plan to shift healthcare from hospitals to communities.
The funding will be used to turn the vacant admin space on the ground floor into three clinical rooms. It comes after Labour Councillors Jennifer Wilson-Marklew and Joe Hearnshaw, with community champion Tabitha Brown, raised the healthcare needs of the area and asked Chris to prioritise this in Parliament.
Stony Stratford Health Centre is one of 22 schemes confirmed by the Government last week, where NHS buildings will be upgraded to make better use of existing space to house more services.

The schemes are part of Labour’s ambition to establish Neighbourhood Health Centres. The Neighbourhood Health Service will bring teams together to dramatically improve access to the NHS, free up overstrained hospitals and deliver cutting-edge and personalised care.
Chris Curtis, Labour MP for Milton Keynes North, said: “When I was elected, I said that my number one priority was getting the NHS back on its feet in Milton Keynes after years of shameful decline under the Conservatives - and that remains my priority today.
"The Government has made great strides in cutting NHS waiting lists to get patients seen faster, but we have to modernise the way our NHS delivers care if we are to get to the level of service people deserve.
“I’d like to thank Jenny, Joe and Tabitha for being such vocal champions for their community.”
Tabitha Brown, Labour’s Community Champion for Stony Stratford, said: “Stony Stratford Health Centre has cared for four generations of my family, so it means a lot to me to see it being invested in.
"We are so grateful to Chris for securing this funding, which will make a real difference to the lives of people in Stony Stratford, Galley Hill, Fullers Slade and all who use this health centre. We will continue working with Chris to champion the needs of the community we care so much about.”
