Leader of Milton Keynes Council accuses government of writing new lockdown plans 'on the back of a fag packet'.

On Saturday, while waiting for the government press conference, Peter Marland tweeted: "I’m hearing from sources inside No 10 that the press conference is delayed as someone has lost the fag packet at this is being written on."

The Labour leader's tweet prompted some equally jesting responses.

One person wrote: "There's far too much room on the back of those. Perhaps it was a postage stamp? Would explain how it was so easily lost..."

Another said: "I doubt their plans are that advanced."

In seriousness, Pete has urged local people to stick to the rules throughout the Covid pandemic.

"It is vital we all follow the guidance," he said.
