Milton Keynes business predicting a bumper year for honey harvesting
A Milton Keynes business says it is predicting a 30 per cent rise in honey harvests across its hives this year.
Home Farm MK, which manages around 100 hives across Milton Keynes and the surrounding counties, says the anticipated rise is down to multiple factors, and not just the warm and dry summer.

The business says a “consistent sequences of nectar flows” is likely to help its own hives to flourish in 2026.
Home Farm MK’s co-founder Gabrielle Higgins said: “Bees need useful flowers producing nectar, and they need that forage to continue.
“This year we have seen a strong sequence from spring into summer, which has made it one of our best seasons.”
A spokesperson for Home Farm MK told the Citizen: “If we continue to see warmer summers alongside winters that replenish our water supplies, we could see longer flowering seasons and some excellent honey harvests.”
The Home Farm MK team regularly visit pop-up events and markets across the area, and are next in Milton Keynes as part of the Eat Street MK Sunday Market at the city’s Discovery Centre on August 16.
“People increasingly want to know where their food comes from,” Gabrielle said.
“Honey gives us a wonderful way to talk about the parks, hedgerows, gardens and crops around Milton Keynes, because those places all contribute to what ends up in the jar.”
Home Farm MK is a member of the Bee Farmers Association and during July started its main summer harvest, as well as hosting two Meet The Bees sessions and a honey spinning event.
