Milton Keynes cafe offers free school lunches to children

The Grumpy Cook, in Shenley Chruch End, posted on its Facebook page today (Friday) advertising its new free school lunch scheme for children, with the meals available between Monday, October 26 and Friday, October 30 each morning from 11.30am.
The Facebook post reads: "If your child is in receipt of free school meals and you live in Shenley, Loughton and Great Holm there are free packed lunches available from The Grumpy Cook.

"Please bring proof of eligibility: a copy of Universal Credit award statement, a letter from JobCentre Plus eligibility or income support payment book, Tax Credit Award Notice from HM Revenues and Customs. Also, anyone in receipt of a Food Bank voucher will be eligible."

On Wednesday evening (October 21), MPs rejected Labour's motion to provide free school meals over the holidays during the coronavirus pandemic until Easter 2021 by 322 votes to 261.
Ben Everitt, Conservative MP for Milton Keynes North, and Iain Stewart, Conservative MP for Milton Keynes South, both voted against the motion.

Milton Keynes North currently sits at 350th place out of 533 places in the south east, with 533rd place being least deprived and one being the most deprived.
Using the same metric, Milton Keynes South sits in 281st place out of 533, according to the government's index of deprived areas.
