Milton Keynes' centre:mk outperforms Oxford Street as shoppers flock to buy Christmas presents

Bosses at centre:mk saw a massive 240 per cent rise in footfall last week as Christmas shoppers made up for lost time during lockdown.

The footfall figures "outperformed" other major retail destinations nationally, including Oxford Street, said a spokesman.

He said: "The centre was pleased to welcome back shoppers as they reunited with their favourite stores such as John Lewis, M&S, The White Company and Lush ahead of Christmas with some retailers reporting strong sales, exceeding last year."

The weekend before second lockdown began on 5th November was also particularly busy and the amount shoppers are spending has been high, with beauty, technology, childrenswear and jewellery among the top spends.

Kevin Duffy, centre:mk director said: “We are so pleased to welcome back shoppers to centre:mk ahead of Christmas. centre:mk continues to outperform which reflects its appeal and strength of offer. He added: "Christmas really is for the children and we wanted to bring something extra special to try and make up for what has been a very difficult year for everybody.”
