The colleagues, from Barratt and David Wilson Homes, joined forces with staff from across the country to take part in the firm's second annual Big Barratt Hike to raise money for The Outward Bound Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support.

The teams' fundraising efforts raised £25,000, meaning each charity will receive £50,000, as Barratt PLC has promised to match the amount raised.

The hike had to be adapted this year due to covid, so the fundraiser was turned into a virtual hike. This meant that each team member would take part in their own hike and add the distance covered to Strava, an exercise tracking app, to calculate the overall total.

Andrew Swindell, from Barratt and David Wilson Homes, said: “In a time when many things are uncertain, we are extremely proud of our colleagues that took part in this year’s Big Barratt Hike.

“Their dedication to taking on the virtual challenge has resulted in an incredible amount of money being raised for each charity, and we know this donation will support them in continuing their important work.”

The funds raised by the hike could help nearly 1,500 young people experience an outdoor learning adventure this academic year. It could also help fund a Macmillan nurse for just over 1,600 hours, or fund the Macmillan Support Line Centre for 119 days.
