Mr Floyd was killed after being forcibly held down by police officers in Minneapolis last week and his death has sparked widespread protests and rioting in the USA.

A post mortem examination yesterday classified his death as homicide.

An council spokesman said this afternoon: "Milton Keynes Council will stand in solidarity with Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities around the world this evening, as it lights the Civic building purple to remember George Floyd and stand up for justice. #BlackOutTuesday."
