Milton Keynes' dream of hosting European Championships is over
Hopes that the Stadium MK could host Euro 2020 games were dashed today.
The FA and Uefa have said no to the Prime Minister's suggestion that England could be the the sole hosts of the postponed tournament.
Yesterday the MK Citizen revealed that Milton Keynes, with its ultra modern 30,000 seat stadium, would be one of the contenders if the offer was accepted.
But both football governing bodies have now rejected the idea. It is believed they feel it is too late to organise the logistics for such a large tournament.
Wembley is already hosting seven Euro 2020 games, including England’s three group matches.
Stadium MK has a highly successful track record in hosting major games. It has already been the venue for three Rugby World Cup games, a Brazil V Cameroon match and a Tottenham V Watford Carabao Cup fixture. It is also due to host the semi-final of the UEFA Women's Euro this summer
