Hilltops Medical Centre at Great Holm was closed all day yesterday (Monday) and a notice on its doors stated: 'The surgery had had a confirmed case of coronavirus. We will be shut until further notice.'

The pharmacy nearby was also closed.

A spokesman for Hilltops today thanked patients for their understanding.

He said: "The patient with confirmed Covid-19 visited the surgery on March 2 and March 3. Patient and staff safety is our utmost priority. The surgery is helping Public Health in tracing all the contacts so all at risk people can and will be contacted by Public Health if they need any further intervention."

The spokesman said the surgery had provided officials with a list of "all possible" people who had contact with the patient.

He added: "To stay safe and keeping others safe, please ring the surgery or 111 rather than visiting the surgery, especially if you have any cough, fever, sore throat or feeling unwell."
