The mum was struggling to do a supermarket shop in Tesco at Wolverton when her autistic son had a "meltdown" because he could not cope with the sensory overload.

She tried to placate him, only to become upset when fellow shoppers reacted by tutted and telling her to "control her child".

But, she said, a kind-hearted Tesco worker called Fran took her and her small son to one side to comfort them and calm the situation down.

"I was upset at some members of the public’s attitude by tutting at him and telling me to “control” my child. It was awful," said the mum.

"But Fran stepped in and made my day. From then on my son has taken a real shine to Fran and looks for her every time we visit (which is at least three times a week)."

That was 18 months ago, and since then the little boy speaks of Fran as his "best friend", said the mum.

"He loves cuddling Fran and telling her she’s his 'best friend'. it makes my heart melt knowing he raises so many smiles, but I wanted to say a huge thank you to Fran because she alone makes our shopping experience so, so much easier...

"For that, Mason and I will always be grateful....Thank you Fran, you have restored my faith in humanity."

The mum posted her story on social media and it resulted in some heartwarming comments from members of the public, saying Tesco should be proud of Fran.

"She is a star... We need more Fran's in the world. Well done, beautiful to read," said one.

Another said: "She deserves a employee of the year award. Well done Fran for your great customer service..Also happy for you and mason to feel welcome and comfortable whilst out shopping."
