Milton Keynes puppy given chance to play again after public donations for surgery

A puppy with a fractured leg has finally undergone surgery thanks to the kindness of the public - but further treatment is still needed.

Lauren Richards, from Milton Keynes, is raising funds for her puppy, Queso, a playful Chiweenie less than six months old, who has undergone surgery after badly breaking his leg.

Queso was recently involved in an accidental collision with a much larger dog on a slippery floor, which left him with a severely injured leg, shaking and going into shock.

The family struggled to get Queso treated, with many vets demanding large upfront payments that they couldn’t afford. The added financial pressure came at the worst possible time.

Lauren said: “My husband was made redundant for the second time in two years back in June, we had already sold valuables for paying rent and bills, we were stuck in a nightmare.”

Lauren started a fundraiser for Queso and the family were eventually connected with a vet willing to take what they had raised so far and work out a payment plan for the rest. The puppy then had surgery to repair the fracture and re-align his leg.

Lauren said: “Queso stayed for two nights at the vet. Honestly the relief when we were able to leave him there knowing he will FINALLY be helped was emotionally overwhelming. We are so incredibly grateful.

“Queso has been doing so well, he is incredibly tenacious and ever playful. We have his next appointment on Friday so the vet can see how he’s recovering.”

Queso’s treatment seems to have been a success so far, but he needs future appointments and the family are unsure of the financial costs beyond the initial surgery.

The family are continuing Queso’s fundraiser to help fund the rest of the payment plan and future treatments for the puppy’s leg.

The couple could only afford the deposit for Queso’s surgery thanks to the donations from the public. Queso’s fundraiser has now reached £1,300 with a target of £1,400.

Lauren said: “I just can’t express my thanks enough for everyone that has donated or helped Queso in any way, just knowing he is at least healing safely now.”

“I just want to give my funny, fearless, adventurous little boy the chance to get back on all four paws again.”

You can help support the puppy’s treatment by donating at Queso’s gofundme campaign.
