Milton Keynes reacts after 3.3 magnitude earthquake hits Leighton Buzzard

Milton Keynes residents have shared their reactions after a minor earthquake hit Leighton Buzzard this morning (Tuesday, September 8).

The earthquake was recorded by the British Geological Survey (BGS) at 3.3 on the Richter magnitude scale, which classes it as a minor earthquake.

Residents spoke about their experiences on the MK Citizen's Facebook page.

Gulalek Kurbansahatova, from Bletchley, said: "Very scary to feel the house move side to side."

Shelly Patterson-Hayes, who was at home in Eaglestone, said: "Felt like my sofa was sinking!"

Donna Jarrett, from Furzton, said: "The house shook and moved me while sitting on my sofa."

Others in Bletchley, Shenley Brook End and Caldecotte also said they felt tremors.

However, some said they did not feel anything.

Lucy Crittall said, "I was out walking in Bletchley and didn't feel it."

A BGS spokesperson said on Twitter: "BGS is receiving many notifications from press and public in this heavily populated area. Reports include 'like a convey of HGVs driving past my front door at great speed', 'the house had one dramatic shake', 'felt like the whole house was shaking' and 'it was like a large explosion'."
