A woman from Milton Keynes was featured in this week's 'One Big Thank You' segment on the primetime BBC programme.

Lucy Fox, whose exhaustive voluntary work was promoted in the MK Citizen at the start of the pandemic in March. Was showcased on the show for her work in setting up the Milton Keynes Coronavirus Community Support Group.

The Oxley Park resident set up a network of volunteers to help support those who are shielding by staying permanently indoors during the pandemic. Milton Keynes Coronavirus Community Support Group has helped the elderly and vulnerable receive groceries, medicines and other essentials, without them having to leave their homes and risk their safety.

A mass production of leaflets were sent to thousands of Milton Keynes houses to increase the scope and reach of the volunteer network. This helped the group grow into a citywide project with over 700 volunteers helping some of Milton Keynes most vulnerable citizens.

To surprise Lucy, the Morning Live show presenter, Gethin Jones, recorded a special message in tribute to Lucy's hard work. That was a set up to invite Lucy to see further socially distanced messages of appreciation from the One Show team, volunteers and those Lucy had helped. There was also a message from Milton Keynes' own Olympic champion, Greg Rutherford and Davina McCall.

Speaking to the MK Citizen last March, Lucy said: "There are so many people in Milton Keynes, particularly elderly people, who will be really stuck if they cannot get out to do shopping or get things they need.

"My intention is that when the UK goes into restricted access or full lockdown there isn’t anyone left struggling with the ‘dare I go shopping’ versus ‘I’m to at risk to go out' dilemma in MK."

The programme aired at 7PM on BBC One yesterday (February 4) and is available to watch on the BBC iPlayer here.
