Milton Keynes woman who has gone bald three times is hoping to win Miss England as ambassador for alopecia

Jessica Hartnett, 21, lives in daily fear of her hair falling out after suffering three mystery bouts of alopecia in her lifetime.

She is now hoping her crowning glory will not let her down for the finals of the contest, which will be judged remotely due to lockdown,

She said: "I had alopecia as a child, when I was three, seven and 12. The last time was the worst as I'd just start secondary school and was really self conscious. I wore a wig for about nine months until my hair finally grew back," she said.

"Nobody knew what caused it to happen each time. The doctors suggested it was stress but, as my mum said, how can a three-year-old be that stressed?"

Jessica, who lives on Brooklands, says she is constantly paranoid about the alopecia striking again.

"If I notice a clump or two on my hairbrush I take preventative action. My hairdresser is brilliant and has all kinds of treatments to help."

These include a special machine to stimulate the scalp to grow more hair

Jessica is entering not only to support other women with alopecia, but also to promote a refuge charity called Elle for Elle for women trapped in abusive relationships.

"I'm doing this because the domestic violence rate has increased so dramatically since the lockdown began," she said.

An account manager with an employment agency in MK, she is asking people to vote for her in the Miss England Midlands final, which was due to be held as a stylish catwalk show at Resorts World Birmingham on April 26.

The organisers were forced to cancel the event due to the coronavirus crisis and the 16 finalists must now submit videos taken in or around their homes and enter the talent round by showing off their skills to the camera.

In their introduction videos, which they've shared on social media, they have spoken about the best and worst bits of being in lockdown.

A public vote is being held on the Miss England website. to vote for Jessica, text the words MISS MIDLANDS09 to 63333 .
