More than 90 parking tickets a DAY issued in Milton Keynes despite Covid restrictions

Lockdown travel restrictions caused the council's income from parking fine to plummet last year - but wardens still managed is issue an average of 93 tickets a day.

MK Council issued 33,813 tickets last year and pocketed £980,830 in fines.

The average fine was £29 and most of them were slapped on vehicles parked at Central Milton Keynes.

The figures come from FOI requests gathered by insurance experts comparethemarket, who compared the number of PCNs issued by local authorities all over the country.

London Borough of Newham is the parking fine capital of the UK, issuing nearly a quarter of a million fines over the space of a year (239,000) and raking in more than £10 million in revenue.

Dan Hutson, head of motor at comparethemarket.com said: “Parking fine revenues are a cash cow for many local authorities. Up and down the country drivers are regularly being caught out by tight parking restrictions. With the third lockdown now in place, we would encourage drivers to take extra care and attention when parking up their car to ensure they avoid a parking fine."
