The team from Nationwide Building Society in Milton Keynes have completed a gruelling virtual bike ride for charity, racking up 353 miles across five days (the distance from their branch to Paris).

Led by senior branch manager, Harry Emblen, the 11-strong group set up their static bike in the banking hall and completed the journey in shifts.

Thanks to donations from members, colleagues and the building society’s charity matching scheme, £2,100 has been raised for the Albert Kennedy Trust (AKT).

AKT is a national charity which supports LGBTQ+ young people aged 16-25 who are facing or experiencing homelessness or living in a hostile environment. Alongside helping young people find safe homes, AKT also provides help with employment, education and training, in an environment that celebrates LGBTQ+ identities.

Harry said: “As so many have been doing in recent times, we pulled together for a great cause and our thanks must go to all our members and colleagues who supported us. Many charities have been adversely impacted by the pandemic, so it’s great to know that the funds raised will help AKT continue their invaluable work with LGBTQ+ young people in Milton Keynes and across the UK.”

Carrie Reiners, from the Albert Kennedy Trust, said: “We are so grateful to the team at Nationwide Building Society in Milton Keynes for their support which will allow us to provide safe accommodation and vital support so that no young person has to choose between a safe home and being who they are."
