Nearly 500 new Covid cases in Milton Keynes today, the first day of lockdown.

The first day of lockdown has seen a record 494 people test positive for Covid-19 in MK.

This brings the city's total number of cases to 12,009 since the start of the pandemic.

There have been no new deaths and 193 patients remain in MK hospital, six of them on ventilation.

MK's infection rate has now risen to 893.3 per 100,000 of the population and the city was declared a Major Incident area at 3pm yesterday (Monday). See Citizen story here .

Nationally 60,916 people tested positive today, an increase from 54,990 yesterday. Covid-linked deaths also increased significantly from 454 yesterday to 830 across the UK today.
