Council contractors Ringway are in the middle of a five day project to resurface a stretch of the V10 near Caldecote and Bow Brickhill.

But their working hours are in darkness - between 8pm and 6am. And this is proving a king-size headache for families kept awake by the noisy machinery.

"The noise was totally unacceptable and the crashing of rocks and metal, together with the trucks and workmen shouting has stopped me sleeping even with all the windows closed," said Caldecote resident Tony Fabrizio.

He said a group of residents even went out in the road to try and stop the work, which started on Friday and is due to finish on Wednesday.

They also tried to seek the help of police, but were told it was a council matter.

"Last night at 2am, after three calls to the police and a call to the council's out of hours environment office, I was informed by the police that the council are to make sure that people are not affected by noise and disruption. Yet the council had no out of hours environment officers to deal with it," said Tony.

" I would like to know who in the council gave these permits and if there is a commercial arrangement or a financial benefit to the council in any way that meant this work couldn’t be carried out at a normal hour," he added.

"I very much hope that the reasons for treating bow Brickhill and Caldecotte in this way is not due to the awful plans that the council had in place for development that has recently been put on hold for a new industrial estate behind Caldecotte that’s clearly not needed."

It is understood the after-dark timing of the works was chosen because the stretch of the V10 has to be closed each night for them to take place.

But residents says the timing is "stupid" and it would be better to close the road during the day and put diversions in place.

The Citizen is currently awaiting a comment from MK Council.
