Opening hours to change at tips in Milton Keynes from this weekend

The facilities will now be open for "winter hours" from 8am to 5pm..

But visits still have to be booked in advance and people cannot just turn up out of the blue to dump rubbish.

To make a booking you need the registration number of the vehicle you plan to use, which site you wish to visit and an email address, to which MK Council will send confirmation of your booking. People will not be allowed on site without their confirmation email.

A council spokesman said: "Sites are open for essential visits only, to dispose of harmful waste that cannot be stored at home safely. Please only bring waste that you’re able to handle yourself as staff can’t help as usual right now."

He added: "We have noticed some customers may experience issues booking a slot while using an Android device. We are working on correcting this problem, but in the meantime please try to use another method to book your slot if possible.

"We’re sorry if this means your plans are delayed."
