Oscar Armitage started joining his dad Jim on runs during their daily exercise sessions at the beginning of lockdown.

"He asked if he could do a sponsored run for the NHS as he wanted to help those that help and look after us," said Jim.

"When asked how far he wanted to run, Oscar said he wanted to do a half marathon. He said the bigger the challenge, the more he thought people would be inclined to sponsor him."

Jim admitted: "We thought he was crazy and way too young to run such a distance but said if he could prove his commitment we would support him."

Oscar is building up the miles through regular training and aims to be ready to run the half marathon distance - 13.1 miles - on Sunday June 21.

So far, Oscar has raised more than £700 in sponsorship.

"We are so incredibly proud of him," said his mum Sarah.
