A tired and hungry hospital doctor has complained of atrocious treatment by a member of staff at a popular pizza delivery firm.

Dr Jigar Trivedi ordered a meal from Pizza GoGo in Bletchley to be delivered to him at the hospital last night, in the middle of his shift.

Nearly two hours later, 40 minutes after the promised delivery time, he called the restaurant to say it had not arrived.

He was horrified when a member of the takeaway's staff allegedly told him: "If I have to wait two hours in A and E then you can wait two hours for your pizza when we're busy."

Dr Trivedi said: "I would like the MK Citizen's thoughts over how this can considered acceptable language to use towards the medical staff that are staying up all night to keep our community safe.

He added: "It's very hurtful to those on shift who heard about this since they all felt pretty disheartened that the local delivery companies feel the A&E department is a burden whenever we place an order."

The doctor has complained to Just Eat, through whom he placed the order, and they have pledged to investigate.

Today the MK Citizen contacted Pizza GoGo, which is based in Bletchley's Queensway, for a response to Dr Trivedi's claims.

A member of staff told us: "I know nothing about what happened. The manager is on a day off and I am not going to bother him."

He then put the phone down.

We called the Pizza GoGo head office and a spokesman said: "This is appalling. Such rudeness is not tolerated. I would like to wholeheartedly apologise to the doctor. "

He said the Bletchley takeaway, like all Pizza GoGo outlets, was run as a franchise, but the ethos for the brand was always for staff to treat customers as they would members of their own family.

"I will be talking to the owner of the franchise, who I am sure will not be happy to hear what happened. There will be an investigation," he promised.

He said Pizza GoGo had the utmost respect for all NHS workers during the coronavirus crisis.
