Plans revealed to build 1,100 new homes next to estate in Milton Keynes

The Newton Leys West development would be on farmland to the immediate west of the Newton Leys estate near Bletchley.

It would take place on both sides of Stoke Road, which is the road to Newton Longville.

A new road is proposed to link the Newton Leys roundabout on the A4146 to bypass Newton Longville and then link up to the A421 Buckingham Road.

The nearest Newton Leys streets to this proposed development would be Trinidad Grove, Tahiti Row, Shetland Meadows, Santa Maria Lane, Harris Close, Larner Close and Dickens Lane. Many of these residents currently look out on open countryside.

The site is being promoted by developer Willis Dawson as an alternative to the controversial 1,150 home Shenley Park development, which is included in the Vale of Aylesbury Local Plan (VALP). This attracted objections from Milton Keynes Council as well as parishes on the western side of MK and parishes within north east Aylesbury Vale.

A response from the Local Plan Inspector is still awaited on the VALP plan's fate. However, the Newton Leys West location has been identified as a recommended growth option within the Draft MK Strategy for 2050

The 72.18 hectare Newton Leys West development would include a two form entry primary school, a local shopping centre, a GP surgery and sports pitches and/or an outdoor play area, say Willis Dawson,

It is all on land that comes under Buckinghamshire Council, formerly Aylesbury Vale, and sits within both Newton Longville and Stoke Hammond parishes.

The site is bounded to the east by the boundary of Milton Keynes and the existing Newton Leys strategic development site, which is now almost complete. To the south, it is bounded by Drayton Road.

A spokesman for the developers said: "The site has the capability to deliver approximately 1,100 dwellings, a new primary school and local centre set within a significant green infrastructure network.

"In addition, this proposal would help facilitate the delivery of a South West Milton Keynes (SWMK) Link Road (known as the Bletchley Southern Bypass), a road link that has been a long-standing aspiration for the area."

No planning application has yet been submitted but the developer has launched a website explaining its proposals.
