A police spokesman said they were "hanging on for all their might" to stop what almost certainly would have been a fatal fall.
:He said: "The person was barely hanging on by their fingertips so the Sergeant and one of the PCSO’s, with the 2nd PCSO acting as an anchor, point risked their own lives to grab hold of the person's jacket and pull them to safety. "
The spokesman added: "The three officers involved would also like to say a huge thank you to the male runner and two ladies that decided to stop their evening to help officers, who were hanging on for all their might."
