Eight-year-old Bella Gunes has been working on 'Sunnytopia' with the help of her mum Wendy every day since the start of lockdown.

The pair built a fairy palace, shops, a bank and even a fairy gym and juice bar out of twigs and leaves in the middle of a field in Bancroft.

The imaginative project grew and grew and fast became a mini tourist attraction for hundreds of delighted visitors. See Citizen story here .

But last Friday Sunnytopia was visited by sick vandals, who not only battered the beautifully-built fairy homes but left offensive messages on the stones and leaves that decorate the village.

Wendy said: "I'm so angry. The palace, bank and houses can all be fixed but the messages they left me and Bella have left me fuming.

"They even wrote a note thanking Bella for the free stuff then proceeded to take her favourite geods (crystal rocks), a rainbow rock, all the mushrooms and the Girlguiding rock.

" Bella cried and I’m just gutted for her."

The project has its own Facebook page called Fairy Village and when Wendy posted about the vandalism there were more than 100 sympathetic replies.

One fan wrote: "How despicable. There's an awful lot of unkind people in this world. They are often people who don't want to show their kind or compassionate nature because it makes them look weak. By causing upset to others it makes them feel stronger. They are bullies. Please feel sorry for them. It's very sad they they can't ever find happiness. Bella's gift is sharing her happiness. So dry those eyes and make more fairy houses, write lovely notes and carry on making everyone happy."

.Wendy vowed: "Tomorrow we will do a makeover and fix it all. We won’t be beaten by some idiots who think doing this is funny."

She and Bella spent most of the weekend working on Sunnytopia and it is now as good as new.

Meanwhile Wendy has published photos of the message left by the vandals, who went under the tags 'Gremlink' and 'Egg'. She is urging anybody who recognises the names of handwriting to name and shame the culprits..
