Standing desks and unisex showers...a glimpse inside the trendiest sustainable office building in Milton Keynes
A refurbished city centre office block is been hailed as the most sustaunable business building in MK.
Silbury House, built more almost half a century ago, was revamped by the RO Group in 2024 and went on to achieve the hgihest possible environmental rating of EPC A+.
This month its success story has been showcased at a ‘Sustainable Assets for Real Estate Investors’ webinar and hailed as a leading example of sustainable development.
An RO Group spokesperson said: “Every aspect of Silbury House has been designed to create an inviting environment that improvesoccupant health, wellbeing, and productivity...Air quality is continuously monitored in accordance with the RESET Air Standard, while 116 rooftop solar panels generate up to 20% of the building’s energy demand on-site.
There are special ergonomic standing desks, unisex showers on all floors and secure cycle storage to support active trave for workers, as well as a new city garden courtyard for them to enjoy natural outdoor space, a business lounge and a “communal breakout” area.
“The building’s environmental commitment extends to its material choices, which have been repurposed wherever possible, including recovered and reused raised access flooring, and carpet tiles made with 75% recycled content. No waste from the refurbishment was sent to landfill,” said the spokesperson.
They added: "The building has achieved an EPC A+ rating, the highest possible classification, and is currently the only office building in Milton Keynes to reach this standard,,.
