Supported living scheme for people with autism gets outstanding accolade in Milton Keynes

A Milton Keynes supported living scheme for people with autism and learning disabilities is celebrating after receiving an ‘Outstanding’ rating from the Care Quality Commission.

The independent regulator for health and social care gave Fenny Mews, Stratford View and the associated community outreach services (Vellan, Thorncliffe and Oldbrook) based in

Bletchley, the maximum overall rating.

Achieving outstanding in four out of five categories puts the service amongst a small percentage of care homes across the country to gain this high standard.

The care homes, which are operated by Precious Homes, specialise in providing bespoke supported living accommodation for people with autism and learning disabilities.

From start to finish, the inspection report praises the staff, relationships with the people they support and the robust and thorough approach to quality management.

The people living at the services were reported as being safe, happy and well cared for, with their social, cultural, medical and personal needs and preferences extremely well catered for.

The report states: “People received outstanding care and support from staff who were dedicated to providing exceptional quality outcomes for people. Staff supported people to maximise their potential by having a collaborative and supportive approach. This enabled people to work towards the attainment of their individual goals and personal aspirations.”

It added: “People using the service, family members, staff, health and social care professionals all spoke very highly of the service, the registered manager and staff. Their comments reflected the commitment of all staff to provide high-quality care through an inclusive approach, that encouraged people to identify and aspire to their individual goals and aspirations.”

Ashleigh Calder, registered manager of the service, said: “I am honestly the proudest and happiest manager ever. I have watched the staff team grow from a very small group of 8 to now almost 80 in the last two and a half years, we have some of the most passionate support workers I have ever come across.

"Together we have been through some very difficult times but have all stuck together and persevered, the whole team are dedicated and go above and beyond to support the residents across Fenny Mews, Stratford View, Vellan, Thorncliffe and Oldbrook.

"They have helped the people we support to achieve some amazing outcomes and have really made a difference to their lives . I am so glad that all our hard work has been recognised and the team definitely deserve the rating as they are all outstanding people. We are all bursting with happiness and cannot wait to go out and celebrate our achievement as a group."
