Middleton pool and fitness centre in Newport Pagnell will reopen on Monday August 3, but all places must be pre-booked.

The centre is run by Newport Pagnell Town Council, and a spokesperson today revealed the enforced lockdown closure and subsequent safety measures will cause a loss running into hundreds of thousands of pounds.

She said: "The facility services the whole of Milton Keynes and beyond, and it has been very difficult for Newport

Pagnell Town Council alone to find the necessary funds to support this loss.

"We are however, pleased to announce that we have been able to obtain the funds necessary to re-open the pool and gym. We look forward to seeing many of you back there as soon as possible after the opening date, and would urge you to book early for sessions to ensure that you get what you are looking for."

Since the pool and fitness centre closed in March, the town council has been taking advice from Public Health England, following government guidelines, and consulting with the trade body ukactive to ensure that it could reopen as soon as possible.

The spokesperson said: Now, as we prepare to do that, we are implementing lots of new measures to keep

colleagues and customers safe. Changes will include lots of signage to ensure we all respect social distancing, reduced activity capacities, enhanced cleaning regimes, and hand sanitizing and cleaning stations.

"We’ll also ask customers to pre-book sessions on our Places Locker app or via our website. Our handy new film about this will help customers prepare."
