5. Six most commonly mispronounced parts of Milton Keynes
Just outside Milton Keynes, nestles the lovely village of Salford, the sitre of the popular Swan pub and restaurant. Many pronounce the place as it is spelled – Sal-ford. Actually that is wrong. The ‘l’ is silent and the correct pronunciation, according to locals, is Saf-ord.

6. Six most commonly mispronounced parts of Milton Keynes
Though this is technically not a mispronounced name, number six is still a test of whether someone is a true local. It covers Central Milton Keynes, particularly centre:mk and Midsummer Place. Who actually says ‘I am going to centre:mk’? Or Midsummer Place? Or even “I am going to Central Milton Keynes’? The answer is: only visitors to MK. For ever since the shopping centre was built, more than four decades before MK was finally granted city status, local people have simply called it “the city”. And they always go “up the city” – never “down the city”. If locals want to specify Midsummer Place, it's often still referred to as 'the new bit' - despite being 22 years old this year!
