“The hosepipe ban might last the whole month”, says Milton Keynes MP after publicly calling out Anglian Water

An MP from Milton Keynes has given an Anglian Water update after criticising the water company following water outages, low pressure and leaks in the city.

MP Emily Darlington had a meeting with Anglian water on Thursday, July 16 after expressing her frustration at the company on a Facebook video a few days earlier. The video came in response to recent water supply issues that left thousands of residents experiencing low water pressure or no water at all.

In the Facebook video Emily said: “It’s just not good enough, which is why we’re bringing in legislation to make sure that these water companies are held to account.”

“It’s too hot for anyone to go without water, even outside. And I know it’s tough for everybody to comply with a hosepipe ban, but we’ve just got to hold on this week. Hopefully the weather is going to break soon.”

She went on to ask residents to get in touch about any water issues they are currently facing, adding “I’m aware of the low pressure already in Old Farm Park and in Woburn Sands.”

In a separate video after Thursday’s meeting with the water company, Emily said she had both good and bad news to share.

“The good news is the leak on Cranfield Road in Woburn Sands has been fixed.

“The other bit of good news is that the leak at Bow Brickhill by the railway line has been fixed and the road has been repaired and should be open tomorrow (Friday, July 17).

“The bad news is the hosepipe ban might last the whole month.”

She continued to say that Milton Keynes suffers from low water pressure in many areas and we all need to continue to save water to avoid these places losing water completely. She claimed that areas with low pressure include Bow and Brickhill.

Emily added on Facebook: “I’ve written to the Secretary of State to make sure the government is aware of the situation, and I’ll keep pushing Anglian Water on the need to give Milton Keynes a water system that we can rely on.”

Emily encouraged anyone who is vulnerable or caring for a vulnerable person, to sign up to the Anglian Water Risk Register. This will ensure that Anglian water prioritises you first if there are any water disruptions.
