Residents in Bradwell Common fear the unit could topple and cause injury to people or nearby homes.

"I frequently see children playing, people walking and cars parked in this area. All it takes is one of those blocks to crumble under that weight, and somebody could easily be killed," said one man.

"It is obviously extremely dangerous and if it were to topple over it would likely damage the nearby residents properties, as their houses are in very very close proximity," he added.

Another said: "What if a child's ball went underneath the building and they crawled under to get it? It doesn't bear thinking about."

The temporary unit is on a construction site at the end of the road on Wimbledon Place and is close to the site's metal hoarding.

A banner on the side of the unit gives the name of Bletchley-based company FSG Property Services Ltd. This afternoon the Citizen contacted the company to pass on the residents' concerns.

Spokesman Jon Lennox insisted the unit was not a danger and had been assessed by structural experts.

"It is very very safe," he said. "Visually it does look pathetic but in terms of structural safety it has been checked and it will be fine."

Mr Lennox said the site was closed off to the public so there should not be a danger.

He said the blocks and wood were only temporary measures until Friday.

"On Friday we will make it look pretty," he said.
