Households are now not allowed to mix and one person can only meet with another person in an outdoor public space. Support bubbles and those meeting for childcare are exempt.

Non essential shops are closed, as are pubs, restaurants, gyms and leisure centres. Those who are deemed clinically extremely vulnerable should not go to work and should limit time outside of their homes.

There will be no reprieve for at least nine days as the government is not due to review tier restrictions until December 30.

MK's infection rate figures throughout that period will form a crucial part of the decision. But already Tier 4 has got off to a bad start with a record 510 new cases over the weekend.

The total number of cases in the city now stands at 6,502 since the start of the pandemic.

There were no more Covid deaths in MK over the weekend and the total toll is still 235.
