Twelve new cases of Covid-19 confirmed in just 48 hours in Milton Keynes

This is one of the highest daily rates for many week and brings the city's total to 911 since the start of the pandemic.

The government data does not specify whether the latest count includes the seven young men who tested positive yesterday after allegedly failing to quarantine when they returned from a holiday in Spain. See Citizen story here .

Nationally the number of new daily cases was once again high at 1,009. The daily death toll has also risen to 77.

There has now been a total of 46,706 Covid-linked deaths in the UK.

There are currently 1,001 coronavirus patients in hospital throughout the UK, with 70 of them on ventilation. But Milton Keynes hospital today had no inpatients at all being treated for the virus.
