Two green-fingered little brothers break the record for the tallest sunflower in Milton Keynes

The record for the tallest sunflower grower in MK has been smashed today by two young schoolboys.

Theo and Rowan Maison, aged nine and six respectively, planted 10 sunflower seeds as a lockdown project at the beginning of April.

Only one flourished - but it grew at a tremendous rate.

The boys watered it carefully during lockdown and, with the help of mum Colleen, measured it once a week.

Last week, at the incredible height of 13ft 6in, it finally flowered.

The Citizen asked for tall stories about sunflowers after writing earlier this week about a 12ft speciman grown by Emma Bryson outside her Medbourne flat.

The average height for a sunflower is 6ft and the maximum is normally 10ft.
